Objets de Vertu

Dedicated sections of Objets de Vertu, an enormous field which includes everything from gold snuff boxes and seals to enamels, fans, galanterie to Faberge and other Russian works of art are the quarterly Fine Art Sales. Silver smallwork, in particular objects such as nutmeg graters, vinaigrettes and card cases feature prominently, as do sewing tools and needlework accessories, gold thimbles, wine labels and antique medical instruments/accessories, including lancet cases are all correctly catalogued and accompanied by several detailed images which ensures competition from specialist collectors far and wide, who may not wish to travel to the Sale in person for a lot which is small enough to easily be posted. This small Austro-Hungarian silver gilt and enamel singing bird box dating from the early 20th century, typical both of its type and of the material offered by Mellors & Kirk in these Sales, sold for £7,500.
