Asian Art
Chinese and other South East Asian art is offered across Mellors & Kirk’s range of auction sales and high standards of cataloguing combined with excellent photography together with bidding on several platforms ensure that the maximum number of bidders, especially those in China participate.
Chinese ceramics from the Neolithic period to the Qing Dynasty and beyond, including Yixing stoneware and blue and white and other porcelains, export wares, lacquer, jade, glass, snuff bottles, carvings, furniture and scholarly objects are all regular features of Mellors & Kirk’s quarterly Fine Art Sales. A high level of research and well written and produced catalogues will ensure that the price realised will be no less than might be achieved elsewhere. Larger auctioneers, particularly those in London are increasingly likely to lot together items that Mellors & Kirk would sell individually in order to maximise the return to the seller.
Notable recent successes include the late 18th century pseudo Tobacco Leaf pattern dinner service that made an above estimate £40,000 and this serene 18th century blanc de chine figure of Guanyin which sold for £25,000.
Asian Art is included in all Mellors & Kirk Sales, including our curated two-day monthly Antique & Collectors Sales.
