DESAGULIERS, JOHN THEOPHILUS - A COURSE OF EXPERIMENTAL PHILOSOPHY. London, W Innys, 1745. Two volumes, 4to, a mixed set with vol 1 being 2nd edition corrected and vol 2 the 1st edition, 78 folding engravings (as called-for), calf, upper board vol 2 detached. Desaguliers was elected to the Royal Society of London in 1714 as experimental assistant to Isaac Newton and he later popularised Newtonian theories and their practical applications in public lectures as well as his written works. By the time of his death he had given over 140 courses on mechanics, hydrostatics, pneumatics, optics and astronomy (2)
