A FINE AND PROBABLY UNIQUE COLLECTION OF FOURTY-TWO 19TH CENTURY CABINET PHOTOGRAPHS OF EUROPEAN NOBLES AND ROYALTY The majority of the photographs relating to various Grand Balls held by Frederick, Prince Imperial of Germany (future German Emperor and King of Prussia, Frederick III), in Berlin in 1875, with various important guests posing in their lavish ball costumes. The majority of the photographs have contemporary writing in French to the verso, in ink, identifying the subject/s and recording their attendance at the Prince Imperial's ball, further inscriptions by the same hand in pencil below the photographs. Subjects include: The Prince Imperial himself, in his costume (14th photograph in the album); Frederica Bancroft Davis (wife of the U.S. Minister to Germany); Princess Catherine Radziwill (wife of Polish Prince Wilhelm Radziwill); the wife of Aristarki Bey (Ottoman Ambassador to Berlin) with Prince Blucher of Wahlstatt; Luis, 1st Marquis of Soveral (Portuguese diplomat); and many other Counts, Countesses, Barons, etc. Housed in the original 19th century clasped photograph album, professionally repaired (1)
