HOWELL, JAMESEPISTOLAE HO-ELIANAE. FAMILIAR LETTERS, DOMESTIC AND FORREN. DIVIDED INTO FOUR BOOKS, PARTLY HISTORICAL, POLITICAL, PHILOSOPHICALLLondon, Thomas Guy, 1678. Fifth edition, 8vo, fine engraved frontispiece (by William Marshall) comprising multiple engraved vignettes including portraits of Julius Caesar, Cicero, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, etc., occasional marks but text generally clean, lacking front free-endpaper, full contemporary mottled calf, some wear/small loss to head and tail of spine. This work, part fact and part fiction, was written by Howell largely whilst in prison during the early period of the English Civil War. It was first published in 1645. ESTC R14264
