[A MOST HANDSOME 18TH CENTURY SCOTTISH BINDING] - THE HOLY BIBLEEdinburgh, Alexander Kincaid, 1772. Large thick 12mo, O.T. title slightly spotted with woodcut coat of arms, separate title to N.T., bound together with the Psalms also with separate title (same imprint), text clean and fresh throughout. In a fine contemporary red morocco leather binding in the manner of James Scott, boards with multiple outer borders including a Greek key-roll, gilt devices to corners of inner panel separated by swags with doves in flight below, large central gilt elongated oval containing gilt urns and 5 perched doves of different sizes, central green morocco onlays with a flamed border containing the gilt device of a standing lady holding a posy, spine gilt in compartments with title lettering in the second, bottom compartment with a standing crane in gilt, the binding lightly rubbed in parts but the gilding still bright, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers to inner boards, free marbled endpapers removed.
