A FINE AND RARE BERLIN REGIMENTAL NAPKIN RING, DATED 1858 painted in enamels and platinum with military insignia, the underside with an inscription and gilt, 6cm diam, underglaze blue printed circular markThe insignia is that of The Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg, a German student corps at the University of Heidelberg. Established in 1820, it was always regarded as an elite body and considered "the most distinguished corps of Christianity." Robert Schumann and many other eminent men including German princes were its members.
