AN INSCRIBED COALPORT BLUE AND WHITE JUG, JOHN ROSE & CO, 1796-C1800 painted with swags and inscribed S Allen, 18cm hLiterature: 1989, illustrated p96.The square handle shape and central vesica reserve suggest an early mould and as with the preceding lot the painting is similar to lots 56 and 115 and 117. A Caughley jug inscribed John Allen 1792 and decorated with Salopian Sprigs is recorded and may well be by the same painter.
