A COALPORT BLUE AND WHITE JUG
A COALPORT BLUE AND WHITE JUG, JOHN ROSE & CO, 1796-C1800 printed with armorials, 18cm hThe shape of the present jug with its central moulded vesica reserve suggest an early date of c1796. The armorials represent the Borough of Shrewsbury's support in 1796 for William Hill of Attingham and this and similar larger jugs may be a response to John Hill of Hawkestone's spurious election 'propaganda' jugs, when he sought to have the election decision changed in his favour.
