A SEVRES DISH, THE PORCELAIN C1780 REDECORATED BY THOMAS MARTIN RANDALL, C1840 22cm diamProvenance: Barry Lomax.The bird painting attributed to Thomas Martin Randall; the flower group to Robert Bix Gray.The attribution of this plate has long been uncertain, for the gilded surround is quite unlike other Randall examples. Eventually, however it is apparent that the flower groups compare very closely to others acknowledged as being characteristic of R B Gray, supporting the attribution of the decoration on this Sevres 'second' plate (with bulge in the glaze) to Randall.
