TWO SÈVRES PLATES, 1763 AND 1769, EMBELLISHED BY THOMAS MARTIN RANDALL, C1820-50 24 and 24.5cm diam, painted factory year and decorators' marksProvenance: (one plate) Freda and Colin Wharf.The 1769 plate has the typical slight Sèvres decoration with blue border lines and gold detail. This is the then 'unsaleable' Sèvres from which Randall is said to have stripped the decoration and substituted elaborate grounds, gilding and enamelling them for London dealers such as E H Baldock. On the 1763 enhanced plate, note the blue lines just visible beneath the ground and gilding.
