A RARE JACKFIELD CANEWARE JUG, C1798-9 sprigged with medallions of Poor Maria and Charlotte at the Tomb of Werther, 15.5cm h, impressed JACKFIELD CO SALOPIANProvenance: Mercury Antiques, 13 October 2000.Literature: Illustrated and discussed in the Northern Ceramic Society Newsletter No 124 December 2001 and 2011, p94.The recessed colour banding to the neck also resembles wasters from the Bradley's site 1796-1800. It is concluded that this jug is probably a production a short lived manufactory at the Jackfield Pottery, Shropshire, probably controlled by Edward Blakeway, prior to it becoming John Rose's Calcut China Manufactory.
