A RARE AND INTERESTING SAUCER DECORATED BY WILLIAM BILLINGSLEY AT THE BRAMPTON IN TORKSEY CHINA FACTORY, LINCOLNSHIRE, C1805-06 pained in red-brown monochrome with a landscape medallion and gilt, 13.5cm diam, painted title in red script A View Skegby Hall, NottProvenance: Barrow,from whom purchased in 1964 (for 12/6d) by the late Alan Cotterill; thence by descent to the vendorThis very rare saucer of Paris, La Courtille, porcelain matches the famous Dr Boot Service from the Exley Collection in the Usher Gallery Lincoln, of which it may once have been part and disposed of as imperfect. In the alternative it may have been amongst the items in 'the large box of china' which William Billingsley left at Derby when en route to South Wales in 1808. This is supported by the existence of a matching cup and saucer in Derby Art Gallery (W G Wheeldon bequest). A saucer in the Dr Boot Service is also painted with Skegby Hall.
