AN ATTRACTIVE PAINTED WOOD PEG DOLL, 19TH C with finely painted shoulder-head, jointed wood body and panted forelimbs, 26cm hProvenance: According to an old note the doll was found in a small box behind a brick in a chimney of the house of Samuel Thornton MP. He was Mayor of Birmingham in 1848 and the public benefactor who organised and personally funded the removal and transport of the Sultanganj Buddha, now in Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
