A VICTORIAN PAINTED WOOD HIGH CONSTABLE'S STAVE, DATED 1845 painted in polychrome with crown, royal arms of the United Kingdom, motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE, 1845, arms of the town of Cambridge and inscribed W BISHOP Esq MAYOR, 151cm W Bishop served as Mayor of Cambridge, 1844-5. The present stave is one of two extant which were paid for by Mr Bishop, who lived at 58 Regent St Cambridge.
