†WENDELA BOREEL, ARE (1895-1985) BLOOMSBURY signed and dated 1918, signed and inscribed on the artist's label verso, oil on canvas, 61 x 67cmWendela Boreel was born in Pau and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art. She was a pupil of Walter Sickert, by whom she was established in a studio in Mornington Crescent. By 1918, the date of the present lot Sickert's passionate affair with Wendela Boreel had ended and he had started a new relationship with the painter Nina Hamnett (1890-1956).
