CPL J CULLEY on pair] with a corresponding set of miniature medals, World War One pair, British War Medal and Victory Medal 85088 PTE A E HUNT NORTH'D FUS and World War Two group of six attributed to Edmund Hatton and official documentsProvenance: Cpl John Culley; thence by descent to the present vendor.DCM: Edinburgh Gazette, 15 March 1920, page 691.MBE: London Gazette, 1 January 1952.John Culley (1888-1962) Chief Clerk Town Clerk's Department, Nottingham. The citation for the DCM reads: Cpl J Culley 5th Forward Survey Battalion RE "For determined courage and devotion to duty as lineman and operator with a sound-ranging section, especially during the period from September to November 1918 under difficult conditions; and on the night of 23rd October 1918 when the section headquarters were hit by a shell. He continued his work at the instrument, although six men were killed at his side." His work in organising the Festival of Britain celebrations in Nottingham was recognised by the award of the MBE.
