PHOTOGRAPHS. THE VICTORIAN GLASS QUARTER AND HALF PLATE NEGATIVES OF NOTTINGHAM BY WILLIAM PALMER, C1880-1900 including street scenes, churches, the Castle, cave dwellings, the Forest, Theatre, Palmer's chemist's shop, villages, family and a small number of other locations, including Boston, Lincolnshire, approx 120William Palmer (1845-1925) ran a chemist's shop and sub post office on the corner of Northumberland Street and Union Road. As this cache of photographs show, he was a keen observer of the local scene and given his trade it is not surprising he was interested in photography, especially with the advent of the dry plate. The group of negatives, which is offered in its entirety was discovered some years ago in an outhouse at Gedling Post Office. Several of the images were published in Nottingham Then & Now, Vol II, compiled by the late D Whitworth, 2003.
