CAPTAIN TIMOTHY SCRIVEN

CAPTAIN TIMOTHY SCRIVEN, RN, CB (C1778-1824) PANORAMA OF MALTA extensively inscribed in ink, with pencil inscription View of Malta by Lt Scriven RN, watercolour in black line border on six sheets jointed, paper watermarked EDMEADS & PINE 1802, 29 x 411cm, unframedCapt Timothy Scriven was born at Lyme Regis, Dorset in 1778 or 1780. He married, in 1802 Sophia Cuddemore at Portsea, Hampshire. He served on a number of Royal Navy ships in the Mediterranean and off the coast of France. In 1819 he was shipwrecked whilst in command of HMS "Erne" on the Isle of Sal, Cape Verde for which he was court martialled. Scriven retired to Jersey, where he died in 1824. There are examples of his drawings and prints after his work in the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
