AN OAK EIGHT DAY LONGCASE CLOCK, ISAAC BOOT, SUTTON [IN ASHFIELD] C1760-70 the 12inch brass dial with matted centre and engraved with flowers flanking the date sector and signature tablet, having steel hands and rococo spandrels, the case inlaid with two paterae, with pendulum and lead weights, 205cm hIsaac Boot was born in 1728, son of the clockmaker John Boot. Boot senior had been apprenticed in 1718 to Thomas Finch of Mansfield and founded a dynasty of clockmakers who worked in the town throughout the rest of the 18th c. Three of his children, William, Elizabeth and John Junior made clocks, but the present clock appears to be apparently the only known example signed by Isaac.
