A DERBYSHIRE OAK THIRTY HOUR LONGCASE CLOCK [JAMES] WOOLLEY CODNOR, MID 18TH C the brass dial with matted centre, date sector and signature disc, maker's distinctive pierced hands, silvered chapter ring and urn spandrels, the movement with finely ringed pillars, inscribing to dial plate, countwheel and flat backed, brass faced pendulum bob, the oak case with brass mounted pillars and quarter sawn timber for the door, 193cm hProvenance: According to an old label, T & S Hyde of Stamford by who restored and sold in 1963.James Woolley, Clockmaker and Farmer of Codnor was born c1700 and worked from 1719 until at least 1780. He was apprenticed to his wife's uncle, John Wyld of Nottingham in 1712 becoming a Burgess of the town in 1728. He made the clock for Nottingham Exchange in 1726.
