A RARE MINIATURE SILVER AND FERROUS METAL LIGHTER AS A MODEL OF MARCONI'S DISC DISCHARGER on turned Cornish serpentine base, stamped MARCONI WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO LTD, 9cm h, by Alfred Foster, London 1912. In the original box, the lid inscribed Souvenir of the International Radio Telegraphic Conference London 1912 from Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co Ltd and on the silk lining, Patented in 1907 and now used for long distance correspondence/Model of Marconi's Disc Discharger/The first means of producing musical notes in the transmission of Wireless TelegramsProvenance: One of the 200 presented by Marconi to the delegates to the important conference held in the immediate aftermath of the Titanic disaster. The conference saw the signing of the International convention that allowed the exchange of radio telegraphs between countries. Marconi presented the delegates wives with a silver scent flask.Another example is amongst the Marconi collection presented by the Marconi Corporation to the University of Oxford in 2004. A further example was sold Sotheby's Belgravia, 22 April 1976, lot 140 and is mentioned by Culme (John) The Directory of Gold & Silversmiths Jewellers & Allied Traders 1838-1914, Woodbridge 1987, vol 2, p162.
