A VICTORIAN WAX STATUETTE OF LORD BYRON BY J CAVE (FL 1820-50) incised by J CAVE London 1834, on ebonised base beneath glass dome and a shaped and varnished engraving of LORD BYRON AND HIS FAVOURITE, backed on wood (2)Another example of the statuette was bequeathed by Rupert Gunnis to the Victoria & Albert Museum (No .74-1965). The V&A also holds a bust of George IV by J Cave, a sculptor of whom little is known, dated 8 October 1830. It is similarly signed and another wax study of William IV on a sofa is known. This model was later published in parian porcelain. Cave is recorded in Pyke (EJ), Biographical Dictionary of Wax Modellers, Oxford 1973, p26.
