ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS WRIGHT (1773-1845) OF UPTON HALL NOTTINGHAMSHIRE UNPUBLISHED ILLUSTRATED AUTOGRAPH MEMORIAL POEMS TO HIS SONS each of eighteen lines (two octave stanzas and a couplet) written in a neat hand in brown ink on card "To the memory of Charles Manners Wright aged 8 years Died April ye 29th 1816/Thomas Langford Wright aged 10 years died April ye 18th 1829" on card, the upper third with watercolour portrait, sky background, 14.5 x 10.5cm, contemporary scarlet morocco casesOf the family of well known Nottingham bankers, the art collector, patron of J M W Turner and admirer of Richard Wilson, Thomas Wright was himself an accomplished amateur landscape painter. He wrote the first biography of Richard Wilson, published in 1824. He married in 1804 at Averham, Newark a widow, Sophia Frances Sutton, nee Chaplain (1770-1844), the mother of the two young boys commemorated. Wright built the neo classical Upton Hall near Southwell to house his picture collection. The house survives as the BHI Museum of Timekeeping.
