'It must be so interesting', voiced with a hint of envy is the usual response when people hear what I do. Two reasons why stand out. Auctions are an endlessly interesting merry-go-round of art and antiques by which knowledge - I dislike the over-used 'expertise' - is both informed and broadened but also the excitement that comes from objects that are a tangible manifestation of history.
