A VICTORIAN ROSEWOOD AND BRASS JUDICIAL SEAL, C1850 the detachable oval matrix inscribed M BROWNE CORONER NOTTINGHAM 9.5cm h and a related saltglazed stoneware jug, dated 1858 (2)Provenance: Michael Browne (1801-1890) was Coroner of Nottingham for fifty five years. He lived at the "Crowner's House" in Gregory St, Lenton, Nottingham. The historian and biographer Robert Mellors described him as a man of "conspicuous ability." The law firm he founded in Nottingham in 1832 has greatly expanded and is today known as Browne Jacobson LLP.
